Secondary School Counseling

Sonoma Country Day middle school students and their families call upon a team of teachers familiar with each child's strengths, as well as the Head of School and Director of Admission, to make appropriate suggestions for high school. SCDS graduating classes typically see students matriculate to almost fifteen different high schools, from local public and private to international boarding options. A variety of local, regional, and national high schools visit SCDS on a yearly basis in order to present information about their institutions to interested families. Students are encouraged to research and attend admission events at high schools that interest them. 

SCDS provides written letters of recommendation for students, and assists families in the application and district transfer processes. SCDS also offers a practice session of the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) for seventh graders, and can help interpret results as well as advise families about preparation options. Conversations about high school placement typically begin in the spring of sixth or seventh grade, with a greater emphasis in the fall of eighth grade.
