Athletics
Athletics at SCDS are seen as an extension of the physical education program. Students who are interested in experiencing a higher level of organization, discipline, and competition have the opportunity to join an extracurricular athletic team. Students are introduced to weekly practices, competition against other schools, and advanced team play concepts. We believe that experiencing healthy competition through team sports enhances the development of our students. We offer extracurricular sports in the following areas for both boys and girls:
Volleyball - Grades 7-8
Basketball - Grades 6-8
Cross Country - Grades 5-8
Flag Football - Grades 5-8
Practices are held after school. The SCDS sports teams compete in the Middle School Sports League (MSSL), which includes public and private schools in Sonoma County and offers competitive seasons that range from four to eight weeks per sport. At the conclusion of all team seasons, league champions are determined by win/loss records, and champions receive championship banners to signify their accomplishment.
SCDS believes in the importance of having connection and relationships in all areas of students’ lives. Therefore, the athletic teams are coached by current staff members who bring a broad range of expertise to the court and playing fields.
